Not everything has to have a canonical in-universe explanation, though such explanations could certainly be retroactively applied as have been done on the various C&C wikis/"histories". You also have to consider the tight time and resource constraints that a small company like Westwood was working with at the time - "why did they have the same units" could very easily be explained as "it's just easier and cheaper and we didn't have time to do more". The easiest and most likely explanation for why the graphics and unit types are shared lies in "our" universe. ![]() But none of these are meant to be direct "shared" units: after all, there's been nearly 50 years since RA1 and C&C1 (you are aware of that?), and you can't expect anyone to be using identical units between those periods. GDI doesn't have a Heavy Tank, just a Medium Tank (as did the Allies). GDI has the Humvee, which is more the spiritual successor to the Ranger. Nod doesn't have a Ranger - they have the Buggy.
